I think Illinois has a pretty good system. Medicaid if you are really poor, and Obamacare ACA if you're low income. With ACA, the policy cost scales as your income rises. I like the concept of people with low incomes getting essentially free Medicaid healthcare, and the people paying in what they should be able to afford as their income rises with the ACA policies.
Many Red states don't have easy access for the poor to get Medicaid.
One of the messy things with insurance is what happens when your employer offers insurance and the insurance is crappy. A lot of times you can’t get insurance through the portal if you’re being provided insurance through your workplace This is how I ended up with United healthcare I also have an employee that only works 19 hours a week so that she can have her spouse is good health insurance For surgery she needs to get. (we get insurance
Lots of complications and horror stories, I'm sure. We have some good news on insurance and ACA. My daughter has a bad back that is preventing her from working. She can't do a physical job and can't sit in a chair for more than say 2 hours (she needs to change positions often). The bad luck of having back issues is slightly offset by having a dad who supports her. We didn't want her on Medicaid due to the restrictions, so we put her on an ACA plan (BCBS). Where I'm going with this is that I couldn't be happier with her plan. There are modest monthly premiums, but the max out of pocket is $900 for 2024. Back treatments have all been covered with no issues or pushback from the insurance. The only thing she's been denied is payment for a GLP (the denial was unsurprising and reasonable IMHO as she's maybe only 40 lbs over where she wants to be). Obama doesn't get the credit he deserves for ACA. I'm a big Obama fan.
I will. :>) I've had an account there for a little while. I still like Twitter better as I believe there is more solid news and interesting science posts/links.
Preach! Excellent commentary.

It feels like we are slaves to the choices that get us the best medical care
